Care of Rubber Latex Mask
Cleaning
Matte Mask: Rinse lightly in cool water, DO NOT SCRUB. You can wipe the inside with a wet rag but DO NOT wipe the outside. Only rinse it. It should then be left to air dry.
Shiny Mask: DO NOT WASH THIS MASK! You can wipe the inside carefully with a wet rag without getting the outside wet. It should then be left to air dry.
Storage
Exposure to heat, sunlight and moisture will eventually weaken the rubber, even sunlight through a window will damage the surface leaving it dull. It is essential therefore to store in a cool dark place.
Care of Rubber Latex Bags
Although rubber has the potential to give you years of fun, rubber is a natural material and requires special care. Be careful with sharp objects e.g. fingernails. Never use anything oil based on rubber as this will perish the rubber and not be possible to repair the damage.
Washing
Wash in luke warm water with a touch of washing liquid to remove cigarette smoke, sweat and natural body oils. It should then be rinsed in cool water and left to dry (takes about 10 minutes).
Polishing
This helps protect the rubber and gives the glossy effect most people associate with rubber. The best cleaner is Pervo-shine which is waterbased and is applied by sprinkling on to the rubber then wiping with a lint free cloth or dense textured sponge until shiney. Do not rub as this will take off the surface of the rubber.
Silicone Sprays
Will give you the sheen seen in most rubber photography. The garnment should first be polished with a waterbased polish then sprayed with silicone spray. This remains greasy to the touch and the spray is flammable so should be used in a well ventilated room.
Purchasing Polish
Most fetish shops sell polishes for rubber but if you can't get to a fetish shop, all is not lost, polishes can be bought from most car accessory shops. Car accessory shops stock a variety of sprays to shine car bumpers and tires and polishes for PVC interiors. Favorites include Amorall and Protectant 303.
Storage
Exposure to heat, sunlight and moisture will eventually weaken the rubber, even sunlight through a window will damage the surface leaving it dull. It is essential therefore to store in a cool dark place. If the surface has been damaged it cannot be repaired and will not respond to polishes. However, it may be camouflaged with silicone spray.
